On Friday evening, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia presided over the 2018 Princess of Asturias awards ceremony held at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo.
As in previous years, Their Majesties were joined by Felipe's mother, Queen Sofia for the traditional walk on the blue carpet.
Once inside the theater, Felipe and Letizia took their places at the head table to deliver the awards, while Sofia went to the Royal Box.
The Princess of Asturias Awards is a series of annual prizes awarded by the Princess of Asturias Foundation to individuals, entities or organisations who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. Founded in 1980 by Felipe, it was previously known as the Prince of Asturias Awards but renamed in 2015 to reflect the country's new heir to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor.
This event is one of the most anticipated on the Spanish royal calendar and we are always excited to see what Queen Letizia will premier at this annual gala. Tonight she did not disappoint! Letizia looked regal in an intricately embroidered Felipe Varela midi dress. The dress is a patchwork of a jacquard reptile-skin pattern, and hand-embroidered glass bead motifs.
Letizia coordinated this evening's look with her custom black Magrit 'Nassa' clutch and a new pair of bespoke leather-trimmed mesh peep-toe platform heels also by Magrit.
She topped off the look with the Joyas de pasar diamond chanton earrings, once the property of Queen Ena and now part of the royal jewelry collection for the select use of Spanish queens.
FASHION FLASHBACK
Letizia has only ever trusted the Spanish couturier to outfit her for this special occasion since her first attendance in 2004. Letizia was absent in 2005 due to the impending birth of Princess Leonor. Do you have a favourite look?
