The King and Queen of Spain hosted the annual Balearic Islands reception this evening at the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Mallorca.
They interrupted their tranquil summer vacation in the seaside city of Palma de Mallorca to host 450 guests from the Balearic community, including politicians, academics, welfare groups and sports personalities.
Their Majesties were joined by Felipe's mother, Queen Sofia. She looked beautiful in a black floral printed maxi dress.
Queen Letizia also wore a floral dress, but she opted for a short sheath silhouette and cream hue to highlight her summer glow.
The fitted dress has an all-over floral embroidered pattern with cap sleeves and a bateau neckline. It appears to be shirred on the left waist. The dress is reportedly a bespoke piece by Juan Duyos, and made from a manton de Manila. Manila shawls are an integral part of Spanish culture and this is a clever conversion by the Spanish designer.
Below we see Queen Sofia wearing a traditional manton de Manila during the State visit to Japan in 2008.

She complemented the floral print with a new pair of gold flower dangle earrings. The are 'Almond' Flower' gold earrings by Helena Nicolau (€110).
Tonight's ensemble was in keeping with last year's feminine style. However, Letizia's outfit choices for this annual event has been varied over the years. Here's a recollection of Letizia's past looks for the Balearic Islands reception:
