The King and Queen of Spain attended the ceremony of the XXXVII edition of the 'Francisco Cerecedo' Journalism Award, granted by the Association of European Journalists (AEJ), at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.
The AEJ brings together individual journalists through their membership of the national sections. It was set up in 1962 in the then six EEC-countries by 70 journalists, who were committed to the need for European integration in a democratic way, determined to defend the freedom of information and press in Europe.
The Francisco Cerecedo Journalism Award is held annually by the AEJ under the sponsorship of BBVA. A monetary prize of €24,000 is endowed along with a medal designed by the sculptor Julio López Hernández. This years recipient was Vicente Vallés, director and presenter of Noticias 2 of Antena 3, 'in recognition of the rigour, independence and depth with which he has been carrying out his work in the television medium during the last decades'.
